He was an avid baseball and football fan, and volunteered as an Assistant Soccer Coach at Oakwood High School. He shared his expansive knowledge of history by volunteering at the National Museum of the US Air Force (the Dayton Air Force Museum). A former Dayton Bar Association President, Shearl was also active in multiple service groups including the Make a Wish Foundation, the Knights of Columbus, and Oakwood Rotary. His faith was central to his life, including his many roles at St. He was an Army veteran, starting his family while serving in Augusta, Georgia during the Korean War. After retiring from practice, Shearl taught historical and constitutional courses at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Dayton. He obtained his Masters in Tax, and practiced law in the Dayton area for over 50 years. He graduated law school in 1957 from the University of Cincinnati, serving as the Editor of the Law Review. He graduated valedictorian in 1953 at the University of Dayton. He graduated valedictorian of his class of 1948 at Chaminade High School. Shearl attended parochial school in Dayton, the start of a life-long passion for learning. He was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Liam, Violet, Archie, and Daniel, and one on the way. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary (Christian) Roberts and his sister, Doll Kolb and surviving nieces, Helen Tegtmeyer and Eileen Berner. Roberts, Shearl J., Age 88, of Kettering, entered into the presence of God on Sunday, Maat Kettering Medical Center.
